Questions You Might Have Before Starting

Starting therapy can bring up a lot of questions, especially if it’s your first time or if you’ve had a different experience in the past. Here are the answers to what clients ask most often. If you don’t see your question here, feel free to reach out and I’m happy to help.

Getting Started

How do I book my first appointment?

Start with a free 15-minute consultation. You can book online, call or text (831) 272-4622, or email [email protected]. The consultation is a chance to talk about what’s going on and see if we’re a good fit. There’s no commitment and no pressure.

What happens in the first session?

The first session is about getting to know each other. I’ll ask about what brought you in, your background, and what you’re hoping to get out of therapy. You’ll have space to ask questions too. Most clients leave feeling relieved that they took the step and with a clearer sense of direction.

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

If something in your life feels stuck, heavy, or unmanageable, and you’ve been trying to handle it on your own without lasting relief, therapy can help. You don’t need to be in crisis. Many clients start because they want to feel better, understand themselves more deeply, or break patterns that keep repeating. If you’re unsure, the free consultation is a good way to explore whether it’s the right time.

How do I know if you're the right therapist for me?

The therapeutic relationship matters more than any technique. During the free consultation, notice how you feel talking to me. Do you feel heard and safe? Do you sense that I understand what you’re going through? Those feelings are more important than credentials on a page. If it doesn’t feel like the right fit, I’m happy to help you find someone who is.

Fees and Insurance

How much does therapy cost?

Individual sessions are $250 for 50 minutes. Couples sessions are $275 for 50 minutes. Extended sessions are available at a prorated rate. I accept credit cards, HSA cards, FSA accounts, checks, and cash.

Do you take insurance?

I am an out-of-network provider. This means your therapy is completely private: no diagnoses reported to insurance, no session limits, and no third party involved in your care. Many clients see this as a benefit, especially those who value discretion. I’m happy to provide a superbill after each session that you can submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement through out-of-network benefits. Many PPO plans cover a significant portion of the cost.

What is a superbill?

A superbill is a detailed receipt that includes the information your insurance company needs to process an out-of-network claim. I’m happy to provide one after each session. You submit it to your insurance, and they reimburse you based on your plan’s out-of-network benefits. It’s a simple process, and I’m happy to walk you through it.

Why don't you accept insurance?

Insurance companies often dictate the type of therapy, the number of sessions, and the diagnoses that qualify for coverage. They also have the right to request your records and session notes. By working outside of insurance, I can provide the approach that’s best for you without those limitations, and your therapy remains entirely confidential. For clients who prioritize privacy, depth, and flexibility, out-of-network therapy offers a level of care that insurance-based models can’t match.

What to Expect

What does a typical session look like?

There’s no one-size-fits-all session. I use somatic and psychodynamic approaches, which means sessions might involve talking through what’s on your mind, exploring patterns from your past, noticing what your body is holding, or working with breathwork and nervous system regulation. Each session follows where you are emotionally. It’s collaborative, warm, and always at your pace.

How long does therapy take?

It depends on what you’re working through. Some clients feel meaningful shifts within a few months. Others benefit from longer-term work, especially when addressing childhood wounds, complex trauma, or deeply ingrained relational patterns. We check in regularly on your progress and adjust based on your goals. There’s no minimum commitment.

How often do we meet?

Most clients start with weekly sessions. As you progress, we may adjust to biweekly. Consistency matters, especially in the early stages, because the therapeutic relationship is the foundation for everything else. We discuss the right frequency together and stay flexible as your needs change.

What's the difference between somatic and psychodynamic therapy?

Psychodynamic therapy explores the unconscious emotional patterns, relational dynamics, and early experiences that shape how you feel and behave today. It helps you understand the why. Somatic therapy works with what your body is holding: the tension, the hypervigilance, the shutdown. It helps your nervous system release what talk alone can’t reach. I combine both because lasting change requires addressing the mind and the body. Learn more about our approach.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes. Everything discussed in therapy is confidential and protected by law. As an out-of-network provider, no insurance company has access to your records. The only exceptions to confidentiality are those required by California law: imminent danger to yourself or others, suspected child or elder abuse, or a court order. I discuss these limits in detail during our first session.

Scheduling and Logistics

What are your hours?

Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Evening appointments are available for clients who need them.

Where is your office?

8500 Wilshire Blvd, Suite 740, Beverly Hills, CA 90211. The office is in a private, professional building with convenient parking.

Do you offer online therapy?

Yes. Secure, HIPAA-compliant video sessions are available to anyone physically located in California at the time of the session. Learn more about online therapy.

Can I switch between in-person and online sessions?

Absolutely. Many clients do a mix of both depending on their schedule. The format is flexible and can change week to week.

What is your cancellation policy?

I require 48 hours’ notice for cancellations. If less than 48 hours’ notice is given, the full session fee is charged.

Do you offer couples therapy?

Yes. Couples therapy is available for partners of all orientations and relationship structures. Standard 50-minute and extended 80-minute sessions are available. Both partners join the same session, whether in person or online.

About Inner Strength Therapy

What makes Inner Strength Therapy different from other practices?

Most therapy focuses on managing symptoms and teaching coping skills. That’s helpful, but it doesn’t create lasting change if the deeper patterns driving the symptoms aren’t addressed. I combine somatic and psychodynamic therapy to work with both your mind and body, helping you understand why you feel the way you do and release what your nervous system has been holding. It’s a root-cause approach.

Who do you work with?

Adults, couples, and teens. I specialize in anxiety, trauma, narcissistic abuse recovery, couples therapy, and therapy for high-visibility professionals. I also offer concierge therapy for clients who need complete privacy and flexible scheduling.

Do you offer concierge therapy?

Yes. Concierge therapy is available for a limited number of clients who need sessions at their home or office, flexible scheduling including evenings and weekends, and the highest level of privacy. Availability is limited.

Are you LGBTQIA+ affirming?

Yes. Inner Strength Therapy is a fully affirming practice. I work with clients of all orientations, gender identities, and relationship structures. Your identity is respected and honored in this space.
