You Don’t Need to Have It All Figured Out
People come to individual therapy for all kinds of reasons. Some know exactly what they want to work on. Others just know something feels off and they’re ready for support. Both are welcome here.
Here’s what I help people work through:
Anxiety. The racing thoughts, the tightness in your chest, the constant feeling of being on edge. Whether it’s been building for years or hit you suddenly, anxiety doesn’t have to run your life.
Trauma. Childhood wounds, relational trauma, PTSD, or experiences you’ve never fully processed. Your body and mind are still carrying something heavy, and therapy can help you set it down.
Narcissistic abuse recovery. Healing from gaslighting, control, and emotional cruelty. Rebuilding trust in yourself after someone broke it down.
Relationship patterns. Choosing unavailable partners, losing yourself in relationships, struggling with boundaries, or feeling disconnected from the people closest to you.
Depression and emotional numbness. Going through the motions without feeling present. Losing interest in things that used to matter.
Life transitions. Career changes, divorce, becoming a parent, grief, identity shifts. The moments when life asks you to become someone new.
Self-worth and identity. Perfectionism, people-pleasing, imposter syndrome, or a persistent feeling that you’re not enough.
If you’re not sure what category you fit into, that’s okay. We’ll figure it out together.
How Individual Therapy Works at Inner Strength Therapy
Step 1: A free consultation. We start with a 15-minute phone or video call to talk about what’s going on and whether we’re a good fit. No commitment, no pressure.
Step 2: Your first session. We go deeper into your story, your challenges, and what you want to change. You’ll leave feeling heard and with a clear sense of direction.
Step 3: Ongoing sessions. We meet weekly (or on a schedule that works for you) and work at your pace. Using somatic and psychodynamic therapy, we address not just what’s on the surface but the deeper patterns driving your experience.
Sessions are 50 minutes. I also offer extended sessions when more time and space is needed.
Individual therapy can be short-term or longer-term depending on what you’re working through. Some clients come for a specific issue and feel resolved in a few months. Others find value in ongoing work that deepens over time. There’s no one-size-fits-all timeline, and we check in regularly on your progress and goals.
A Deeper Approach to Individual Therapy
Most therapy teaches you how to cope. That’s helpful, but it’s not enough if the same patterns keep showing up.
I combine somatic therapy and psychodynamic therapy because they address different layers of your experience:
Somatic therapy works with what your body is holding. The tension, the hypervigilance, the shutdown. Your nervous system stores stress and trauma in physical patterns that talk therapy alone can’t reach. Somatic work helps your body learn to release what it’s been carrying.
Psychodynamic therapy works with the emotional patterns underneath. The unconscious beliefs, relational dynamics, and defenses that developed early in life and continue to shape how you feel and behave today. This approach helps you understand why you do what you do, not just what to do differently.
Together, they create the kind of change that doesn’t just feel better temporarily. It lasts.
Questions About Individual Therapy
How do I know if I need therapy?
If something in your life feels stuck, heavy, or unmanageable, and you’ve been trying to handle it on your own without lasting relief, therapy can help. You don’t need to be in crisis. Many people start therapy because they want to feel better, understand themselves more deeply, or break patterns that keep repeating.
How often do we meet?
Most clients start with weekly sessions. As you progress, we may adjust the frequency based on what feels right. Some clients move to biweekly sessions over time. We discuss this together and stay flexible.
How long does therapy last?
It depends on your goals and what you’re working through. Some clients feel meaningful progress in 3 to 6 months. Others benefit from longer-term work, especially when addressing deeper patterns or childhood wounds. There’s no minimum commitment, and you’re welcome to return for support anytime.
What's the first session like?
The first session is about getting to know each other. I’ll ask about what brought you in, your history, and what you’re hoping to get out of therapy. You’ll have space to ask questions too. Most people leave feeling relieved that they finally started.
Do you offer online sessions?
Yes. Secure, HIPAA-compliant video sessions are available for anyone in California. Learn more about online therapy.
How much does it cost?
Sessions are $245. I am an out-of-network provider, which means your therapy is completely private. I provide superbills for potential reimbursement through your out-of-network insurance benefits.
